The Coppini Academy of Fine Art will generously provide a light continental breakfast in the morning and a lunch during the noon break.

This thoughtful gesture will allow us to paint and get the most out of the time we have.  Watercolor requires tremendous focus and can sometimes be exhausting.

This workshop is for painters with intermediate to advanced skills in the materials, techniques and process of painting in transparent watercolor.  The focus will be on the mechanics of seeing and building a painting from a technical point of view.  Creative expression will be encouraged and guided, but the main instruction will be on achieving accurate, inspired and quality results with pure technique, free of tricks, crutches and gimmicks.

From my experience,   I think it’s called watercolor, not because the paints are water soluble, but because water is the main tool of the process.

THE WATER IS YOUR FRIEND!!

We will paint a still life from a live set up.  There will be a demo in the morning with extensive explanation of the process and the decisions made.  Participants will paint in the afternoon.  Good drawing skills are helpful, but not required.  Experience with watercolor, materials and process are required.  Participants must show up with all equipment necessary and paper prepared by traditional stretching in advance or a good quality watercolor block.  I prefer Arches paper for the best results when using fluid washes and layering.
